HOW TO OPEN IFC FILE IN NAVISWORK MANAGE 2027

Introduction #

This guide describes how to open an IFC file in Navisworks Manage 2027. 

Steps #

Step 1: Exporting an IFC File from MiTS  #

Before you begin, ensure that you have an IFC file available. If you have not yet exported your MiTS model to IFC, refer to the guide here  before proceeding with this tutorial. 

Step 2: Opening IFC file in Naviswork #

1. Open Navisworks Manage 2027 and click Open.
2. Browse through and select the IFC file, then click Open.

3. The selected IFC file will be loaded and displayed in the Navisworks workspace.

Troubleshooting #

Elements in the IFC file are missing #

 Solution

1. Go to Naviswork Application Menu (the “Blue N” icon at the top left corner) and click Options

2. Expand File Readers and click IFC.
3. Set the Conversion Method to Modern (v2).
4. Click OK

5. Go to Home Tab, and click Refresh. Wait for the program to reload the model

Can I open IFC file in other Naviswork Application? #

According to Autodesk, IFC files can be opened using Autodesk Navisworks Manage or Autodesk Navisworks Simulate. 

Autodesk Navisworks Freedom does not include a built-in IFC file reader and therefore cannot open IFC files directly.
