Slope Classification (Design Aid) #

Overview #

The Slope Classification (Design Aid) displays the original terrain slope as color-coded gradient bands directly in the 2D view. This allows to quickly identify areas with steep slopes without having to run the full analysis. The feature can be used for preliminary terrain assessment and earthwork planning across a range of projects. It helps as a guide to identify steep areas, assess site suitability, and determine where grading, cut and fill, or terracing may be required.

Workflow #

Use the following workflow to quickly assess terrain and identify areas that may require earthwork:

  1. In the RHS Terrain property grid, find Slope Classification (Design Aid).
  2. Toggle the “Show Slope Classification” to Yes.

  1. Click Configure to define the gradient bands.
  2. Select a classification mode:
    • Equal Interval: Classify the terrain based on fixed slope ranges.
    • Quantile: Classify the terrain based on the distribution of the actual slope data.
  3. Review the colored terrain in the 2D view.
  4. Identify areas where the terrain exceeds the desired slope.

  1. Draw a Wall Line at the desired terrace location and assign the required wall elevation.
  2. Configure the slope degree if necessary. See Wall Slope Template Configuration to set the slope angle, slope ratio and other slope parameters.

Known Limitations #

No automatic cut and fill #

  • MiTS does not automatically propose/modify the ground to achieve a desired slope.
  • The overlay design aid helps identify areas that may require attention, but does not automatically take every steep area and intelligently perform cut and fill. to a targeted slope degree as a one-click workflow.
  • Users must define the required wall elevation, slope parameters, and proposed terrain based on the project requirements.

Single Wall Elevation #

  • Only a single elevation can be defined for each Wall Line.
  • When the existing ground elevation varies along the Wall Line, the assigned wall elevation may not match the original ground level at all locations.
