Some stretches of a road — most commonly an overpass or a bridge crossing — should not be counted in the road’s cut and fill volume, since there is no real fill beneath an elevated structure. The Exclude Sections feature lets you mark a chainage range per road as excluded, so the End Area Report skips it when computing volume.

An excluded range can be added, edited, or removed from any of the three places below — as they all stay in sync, so users may opt to apply the range in whichever location is most convenient for your task.

Where to exclude a section #

Steps: #

1. Select the road under the Project View. Under Horizontal > Line, go to the Properties on the right-hand side.

2. Click Edit on the Exclude Sections to open the Exclude Section dialog for that particular road.

2. Excluded Chainage spread-input sub-tab #

Steps: #

1. Go to Input tab of the Road & Highway Module and navigate to the Cross Section Spread Input.

2. Open the Excluded Chainage sub-tab alongside Cross Sections which lists the defined excluded ranges in the cut and fill volume computation.

3. To define more excluded sections, users may click on the ‘+’ button. To remove the excluded sections, select the defined chainage sections and click the Remove button. Users may also edit the chainages directly in the Spread Input.

3. End Area / Mass Haul confirmation dialog #

Click the End Area or Mass Haul Diagram ribbon button (Under Road & Highway > Output) to generate that report — both buttons share the same dialog, since Mass Haul is calculated from the same End Area results.

Every explicit click of either button shows this confirmation dialog and recomputes, so users always get a chance to review exclusions before seeing the updated results — it isn’t skipped just because a report happens to already be open. The dialog lists every road in the project — not just ones that already have an exclusion — each as its own tab, with a live count of excluded sections. Users can easily add or remove any chainage sections to be excluded as we don’t need to leave the dialog to find it in the Input tab or the right-hand side panel.

Once the chainage sections have been established, uses can proceed to click OK to apply the exclusions to the End Area Report or the Mass Haul Diagram.

Each road defined is also equipped with a Starting Baseline parameter (it is the cummulative volume carried into the road’s first station, applied to the Mass Haul diagram and the End Area Report’s volume computation). How excluded sections are shown #

Once a range is excluded, it’s flagged wherever you view that part of the road, so you don’t accidentally read an excluded station’s numbers as real:

• Cross Section Input plan view — excluded cross sections are drawn greyed-out.
• Cross Section output single view — a banner appears above the drawing when the currently displayed station falls inside an excluded range.
