We are pleased to announce that our software, starting from MiTS 3.2, now supports the latest Malaysian Sewerage Industry Guidelines (MSIG) Volume 1 – Planning Principles & Tools, recently published by the Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN).

We learned that this guide will be enforced in the construction sector, starting from March 3rd, 2025.

What's New in the Latest Guidelines?

Notable changes affecting the analysis in the sewerage module include peak factor, sewage generation rate and population equivalent. For additional adjustments, you may browse the addendum list to see more on what they have in the new guideline.

Peak Flow Factor

One of the key updates in the recent MSIG is the revision of the Peak Flow Factor, which has been updated to 3.4 – Previously, the factor was set to be 4.7

Sewage Generation Rate

Another change that has been made is on the sewage generation rate which the value implemented before is 225 litres/person/day and has been changed to 210 litres/person/day in the new guideline.

Population Equivalent

Additionally, the population equivalent for various premises and establishments are also added and there are slight changes from the previous guideline. One of the notable changes is on the PE for residential which has been categorized according to area.

How is this reflected in MiTS 3.2?

In our latest version, the peak flow factor of 3.4 has been implemented as the default value for the sewerage analysis. For sewage generation rate, the value is maintained at 225 litre/person/day.

Additionally, we have introduced the Peak Flow Factor and Sewage Production Value as user-defined parameters, allowing users to change the value as needed to accommodate future updates. This parameter is available under Options > Project Settings > Expand Sewerage > Click on Design.

The updated parameters will be reflected in the flow calculation as shown in the Textual Report below.

What about analysis in MiTS 2?

In MiTS 2, the analysis will continue to use the peak flow factor of 4.7 for the computations. This does not mean the analysis is incorrect; Rather, it results in a more conservative peak flow estimation and pipe sizing compared to the updated approach in MiTS 3.

However, the sewage generation production value can be updated and changed from 225 litre/person/day to 210 litre/person/day. This parameter is available under Options > Project Parameters > Expand Sewerage > Click on Design.
