# How to Start Synchronizing between MiTS and Civil 3D?

This article acts as a basic guide to kickstart the synchronization process between MiTS and Civil 3D, outlining the essential guidelines to observe before establishing any mapping parameters.

# **Prerequisites for Synchronization**

Before you begin, ensure you have the following essential components and configurations in place:

1. **MCIntegrator Plugin**

This plugin can be obtained from the MES Technical Support, in which the version installed **should correspond to the version of the MiTS software and Civil 3D**.

For detailed installation instructions and troubleshooting, please refer to the resources below:

- **[How to install the MCIntegrator plugin](https://mes100.com/docs/mcintegrator-installation-guide/)**

- **[Incorrect Civil 3D version](https://mes100.com/docs/mcintegrator-troubleshooting-guidelines/#0-toc-title)**

- **[Incorrect plugin version](https://mes100.com/docs/mcintegrator-troubleshooting-guidelines/#4-toc-title)**

1. **MiTS Software & Project file**

Ensure the MiTS software is installed and that you have access to the relevant project file. You may also need to create a new MiTS file.

1. **Saved Civil 3D Drawing File**

It is important to ensure the Civil 3D Drawing File involved in the synchronization is saved beforehand.

Failing to save the file will result in a verification error: ***[Command cannot be activated…](https://mes100.com/docs/mcintegrator-troubleshooting-guidelines/#2-toc-title)***

1. **Gravity & Pressure Network Catalogue**

Essential for synchronization of Drainage, Sewerage, and Water Reticulation syncs.

For further understanding of the network catalog and how it can be applied in your file, refer to [***A***](https://mes100.com/docs/adding-pipe-and-structure-size-to-part-list-in-civil-3d/)***[ddin](https://mes100.com/docs/adding-pipe-and-structure-size-to-part-list-in-civil-3d/)***[***g pipe and structure size to part list in Civil 3D***](https://mes100.com/docs/adding-pipe-and-structure-size-to-part-list-in-civil-3d/).

# **Preparing MiTS File for Synchronization**

Before data synchronization is carried out, users need to ensure the MiTS project file is in the correct state to prevent data loss or sync errors.

1. **Design Validation in MiTS**

**Earthworks Survey Points & Platforms:** Ensure the survey point groups and platforms designed are precisely defined. These two entities will be synced as Surfaces, which will affect how your terrain will be represented in Civil 3D.

**Utility Networks (Drainage, Sewerage, Water Reticulation):**Make sure all pipe connections, nodes, and their properties (such as ground level, invert levels, diameters, running networks, nodes’ profiles) are correctly input in their respective modules.

1. **Save MiTS Project**

The MiTS project file needs to be saved before attempting any synchronization to guarantee that all the latest design data is captured and ready for transfer.

1. **MiTS File Status During Sync**

**Integration of MiTS to Civil 3D:** The project file can remain open or closed during the sync; it does not have any negative impact on the data transfer.

**Integration of Civil 3D to MiTS:** The project file **should always remain closed** to ensure no data corruption during the sync.

# **Linking MiTS & Civil 3D Files**

To establish a connection between the MiTS project file and the Civil 3D drawing file, users are required to bind the files.

1. From the MES Toolbar in Civil 3D, locate and click the **Project**button.

1. The software will then prompt users to create a new MiTS file or bind to an existing MiTS file, as in the image below.

1. Users will need to choose the appropriate option based on their current project file status.

## **Option 1: Create new MiTS file**

The *‘Create new MiTS file’* option is ideal when we are synchronizing **from Civil 3D to MiTS**.

1. Click **Create new MiTS file**.

1. Specify the **File Name** for the new MiTS project file.

1. Click ** Save**. A MiTS file will be created, and any entities synced from Civil 3D will appear within it.

## **Option 2: Bind existing MiTS file**

This option is ideal if you already have **a MiTS file created before the sync**.

This option is common when you are synchronizing from **MiTS to Civil 3D.**

1. Click **Bind existing MiTS file**.

1. **Select the MiTS file** that you wish to sync the entities into Civil 3D.
