Program cannot start due to ‘api-ms-crt-runtime-I1-1-1.dll’ missing

Error:

You may encounter such error during executing MiTS. This error is due to missing/outdated windows and only be applied to Windows 7 and 8. If such error occurs in Windows 10, following steps are not applicable. 

Troubleshooting: 

First step: Install KB2999226 to machine operating system #

  1. Determine your machine Windows Version (Windows 7 or 8) and your operating system (x86 or x64)
  2. Download the link below and launch the updates accordingly

All supported x86-based versions of Windows 8.1 Download here
All supported x64-based versions of Windows 8.1 Download here
All supported x86-based versions of Windows 7 Download here
All supported x64-based versions of Windows 7 Download here

Or, you can click on this LINK, and choose the folder according to your Operating System.

Remember to also install the VC++ 2015 redistributables that come with the installer.

If the above steps does not resolve the issue,  If you are unable or unwilling to install the above KB article and/or VC++ 2015. Then you need to do the second step below:

Second step: Put Visual C++ 2015 and UCRT DLLs inside your local Application Directory #

Operating System x86 #

  1. Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 x86 and extract the zip file
  2. Right click the icon and click “Open File Location”

      3. Then copy and paste all the DLL into the same directories as your .exe of MiTS. No installation is needed.

     4. Then, download another file which is the UCRT and extract the zip file.

     5. Choose the folder based on the Operating System (ie x86 folder)

     6. Then copy all of the DLL and paste it in the file location, as in Step 3

Operating System x64 #

  1. Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 x64 and extract the zip file
  2. Right click the icon and click “Open File Location”

     3. Then copy and paste all the DLL into the same directories as your .exe of MiTS. No installation is needed.

     4. Then, download another file which is the UCRT and extract the zip file.

     5. Choose the folder based on the Operating System (ie x64 folder)

     6. Then copy all of the DLL and paste it in the file location, as in Step 3

The issue should now be resolved accordingly.

Conclusion:

  1. Whenever possible, you should always install the UCRT and the VC++ 2015 redistributables properly as in First Step above.
  2. Only when you are unable to carry out the First Step, then you can proceed to paste the DLLs inside the application directory.
