Normally, the contractor will provide as-built drawing for Earthwork progress and C&S engineer will be required to check the EW volume submitted by the contractor.

In MiTS, the as-built comparison with OGL can be done by comparing the two (2) sets of survey points imported as a whole area (by convex hull) or by comparing by boundary area.  

In this documentation, we do comparison results between DTM and End Area for EW Volume based on a boundary.

Zone 1 Result

EW Volume = Cut – fill

Zone 1 EW Volume = 215.26 m3 – 1188.94 m3 = -973.68 m3

Zone 2 Result

EW Volume = Cut – fill

Zone 1 EW Volume = 844.65 m3 – 199.80 m3 = 644.85 m3

Zone 3 Result

EW Volume = Cut – fill

Zone 1 EW Volume = 171.72 m3 – 5.53 m3 = 166.19 m3

 

We would say that the EW volume calculated may not be exactly the same between methods used and may have 2% – 4% discrepancies. For further explanation user may refer ‘The DTM method and accuracy of MiTS 2 Earthwork” here
